UN youth takeover on global education

On 12 July at the United Nations in New York hundreds of young people from all around the world are staging a youth takeover. Our young ambassadors, Millie and Sam, will be there too!

They will be putting forward their ideas on how world leaders need to respond to tackle the global education crisis.

Millie and Sam will travel to New York to witness the event and to add their voices to this important global education debate! We’ll be sure to share their reports with all our Send My Friend to School supporters afterwards.

One key highlight of the event will be when Malala Yousafzai gives a speech to all the young campaigners. Malala has been recovering in the UK after being shot by a Taliban gunman in October 2012 in response to her campaigning against the destruction of girls schools in Pakistan.

The youth takeover of the UN takes place on 12 July which is Malala’s 16th birthday. This date has been made a global day of action on girls’ education to highlight the fact that there are still 3.5 million more girls than boys who are missing out on school around the world.
